The Newark Downtown District and TOWN SQUARE have a long and fruitful history. Since 2017, we have supported this exceptional BID as it has updated its assessment formula, successfully expanded its geography to incorporate the surroundings of Lincoln Park and proposed a comprehensive plan for quality maintenance and programing of Newark's Downtown Parks and the newly created Mulberry Commons in particular.
Newark Downtown's District vision is one of active retail, a jump start to the revitalization of empty upper stories in the downtown core, and renovation of empty or underused buildings. Its tools are clean, well-lit and safe streets graced by a robust horticulture program. Thanks to its work and the ongoing financial commitment to Downtown Newark of local employers such as Prudential or Audible, development is taking hold in Downtown. New properties are coming up while historic structures are enjoying a new life as housing or hotels. Retail is blooming on Halsey Street and budding out near Teacher Village. Much remains to be done, but the path ahead is clear for all to see.
It has been a joy for TOWN SQUARE to be a part of Newark Downtown District's work and we look forward to the work ahead.
